The URL Bar in Firefox used to autocomplete when entering URLs, but now it only provides a list of options. In order to select the first option (which I do in greater than 90% of instances), I now must use the arrow keys. The arrow key approach is not particularly convenient, especially since I have grown very used to the greater convenience of URL autocomplete.

I have already checked the relevant options and about:config settings.

The Location Bar is set to suggest Bookmarks (as in earlier versions) browser.urlbar.autoFill is set to true (default) as is browser.urlbar.autocomplete.enabled browser.urlbar.default.behavior is set to 2 (Bookmarks - per the Location Bar setting above)

I also tried 16 for browser.urlbar.default.behavior (a long-shot that did not pay out)

I have tried Safe Mode, I have disabled and even uninstalled add-ons, and I have had no luck with URL autocomplete in FF 26. I would prefer not to revert to older versions, but i must admit that I really, really liked URL autocomplete (back when it still liked me).

Thanks for the info. That addon (like every other autocomplete addon I have seen) appears to hit search sites, which I most definitely do not want. What I am trying to achieve is autocomplete of bookmarked pages and bookmarked pages only. I did not see any configuration options for the addon that would allow restriction of searches for autocomplete matches to bookmarks only, but it is possible that I missed something, so please let me know if there is an option that allows that tweak. Perhaps I can just eliminate the default search engine...

I stand corrected - the options to change behavior do appear to be there. There does not appear to be any way to "accept" selections, but they seem to instantly take effect. I'm running it as a trial in a separate FF instance, but it does so far seem capable of restoring prior FF behavior.

It would still be nice if FF worked appropriately (in my perhaps idiosyncratic opinion) out-of-the-box, but one of the really nice things about the project is the ability to customize.

Thanks for the suggestion as a work-around.

Not entirely relevant to the initial question, but applicable to Diego's addon workaround...

Is there really no way to "accept" or otherwise exit the options screen for addons without closing a tab or selection "addons" or somehting else from the links on the far left? That is really odd behavior for an options screen. Perhaps it is left to the addon author? That seems like something that should be relatively standard.
