When I use the Add-ons Manager to check my add-ons, it informs me that Java Deployment Toolkit 10.51.2.13 is disabled. But when I run a file search on my hard drive looking for the files mentioned, there is no such file on my hard drive. (Looking for npdeployJava1.dll and application/java.) Also when I go to ControlPanel>Programs>uninstall, the ONLY Java program shown is Java 7 Update 51. No "toolkit." On the other hand, your site opines that I have Next Generation Java Plug-in 10.51.2 for Mozilla browsers, which does NOT appear in the list of installed programs in the Control Panel.

So, it appears that the offending "toolkit" program is not on my computer, the FF resolutely "blocks" it.

Your list of plugins shows that you have "Next Generation Java Plug-in 10.51.2 for Mozilla browsers" installed. This is the latest Java 7 version and, on Windows, would be listed in about:plugins as Java(TM) Platform SE 7 U51.

It would appear in the Windows Control Panel installed programs list as Java 7 Update 51. This is the latest recommended version of Java you will see if you go to http://www.java.com/en/download/

Java 8 is currently not recommended for most users. See http://www.java.com/en/download/faq/java8.xml for more information.

Java Deployment Toolkit is on the Mozilla Blocklist, https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/blocked/p428

It's part of Java so it wouldn't be listed separately in the Windows Control Panel list of installed programs. The file name and path should be shown in the list of installed plugins you see when you enter about:plugins in the address bar.

On my Windows 7 x64 computer I see the following in about:plugins:

Java Deployment Toolkit 7.0.510.13

File: npdeployJava1.dll
Path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre7\bin\dtplugin\npdeployJava1.dll
Version: 10.51.2.13
State: Disabled (STATE_VULNERABLE_NO_UPDATE)
NPRuntime Script Plug-in Library for Java(TM) Deploy

Java SE Runtime Environment 8 is available (it requires Windows Vista or later). It has no bearing on the aforementioned issue, but if you absolutely must have Java installed, you should at least have the latest version.

  1. From the following page, save jre-8-windows-i586.exe somewhere handy, like the desktop.
  2. Exit all browsers.
  3. Uninstall Java from the Windows Control Panel.
  4. Restart your computer.
  5. Run the setup file you downloaded earlier.
