While using private window in Firefox for Mac, the keyboard shortcut to go to the address bar doesn't work.

The keyboard shortcut ⌘ + L to take the cursor to the address bar doesn't work when using private browsing. It works in normal window(s)/tab(s). And whenever I open a new tab in the private window, the cursor does not get initialized to the address bar as it does for the normal window.

I am using the latest version of Firefox.

By default the cursor should be in the url bar in a private window. Try safe mode. Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode

Sorry for getting back so late. I just checked as to what exactly happens when I open a new private browsing window. If Firefox is opened in full screen mode (on Mac - ⌃⌘F), and then a private window is opened (by ⇧⌘P), the cursor does not default to the address bar.

However if the original window is opened in normal mode (not full screen), the new private window also opens in normal mode, and cursor defaults correctly.

Do you have the Navigation Toolbar and the location/address bar bar visible in Full Screen mode?

I don't know for sure how this works on Mac (toolbars may be visible), but on Windows and Linux the toolbars are hidden by default in Full Screen mode and you need to hover the mouse to the top.

Yes, the toolbars are visible in the Full Screen mode. I can see all the open tabs and stuff.
