I realize it will be jarring, but could you try the "Restore Defaults" button in Firefox's Safe Mode? In Safe Mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox.

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Does the Customize panel work in Safe Mode?

And if so and you use Restore Defaults, does Firefox look better when you exit and start up again normally?

The CTR extension does have the option to hide the main Navigation Toolbar -- this is not a built-in option -- for those who prefer to move its controls to other locations. If the bar is completely missing, I would check on that first.

However, if only the address bar is missing, it's possible it was removed and is among the available controls in the Customize panel. Could you check that? This article has the steps: Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars.

If it cannot be found anywhere, the "Restore Defaults" button at the bottom of the Customize panel should put the various bars and buttons back in their standard positions so you can recustomize from scratch.
