Thunderbird stopped downloading my gmail inbox's on Thursday the 11th May 2017. I didn't notice at first as i was still able to send emails. On Monday the 15th May 2017 it suddenly started working again, but on Tuesday 16th May 2017 it stopped. Since then i have not been able to get Thunderbird to download my gmail inbox's, though i could still send emails out. Thunderbird did an update around this time. I have been through all the IMAP/POP information for both Thunderbird and Gmail. I have made sure both are set to IMAP. I experimented with one Gmail account and changed it to POP, but the problem remained. I have checked all settings, ports, server names, passwords, changed all Gmail accounts to allow "access for less secure apps" etc. I have tried dropping the "maximum number of server connections to cache". I use AVG Ultimate and have searched their support and checked any settings as recommended by them.

I have removed the email accounts from Thunderbird, then added them back in. When doing this it auto selects the IMAP and fills in the correct incoming and outgoing server details. When i select "done" it does the checking password bit then i get a message saying "Configuration could not be verified - is the user name or password?" and next to the password box there is the message "User name of password invalid", even though all account names, email addresses and passwords are input correctly.

I have the current Thunderbird being 52.1.1 (32-bit) and Thunderbird tells me that it is up to date.

As of yesterday (24th May 2017) i cannot send emails - i get a message "Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because the connection o Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.gmail.com timed out. Try again." I'm not sure what i have changed to make that happen.

Any suggestions?.

In order to help you, please post here your Thunderbird Troubleshooting Information.

At the top right of the Thunderbird window, click the menu button (or use the regular menu at the top), then select Help: Troubleshooting Information.

Click the "Copy text to clipboard" button.  Do not check the box "Include account names"  Then paste (Ctrl-V), the text into your response here. We only need to see the sections down to and including the "Extensions" section, so you can delete the rest.

The issue has magically resolved itself. After opening Thunderbird on Saturday morning and clicking on one of my inbox's a window immediately opened to log into gmail and confirm my password. All accounts are now working.

This issue is happening again, with Thunderbird unable to access gmail. I believe it is a problem from gmail's end though, as once a week Thunderbird will load the email accounts, then, next day it loses access again.

This is a bug with Thunderbird version 52.2.0, not a problem with Gmail, like I also thought.

There is currently no solution to the bug other than reverting to version 51.1.1.

See: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1373161 This is the best source of information for the bug. Good luck trying to find answers. I have given up.

Unfortunately i don't have the exe for 51.1.1 and i can't seem to find it when searching for it.

Currently trialling Mailbird and eM Client, of which only Mailbird is able to send and receive emails thru my gmail account.

Hope the Thunderbird boffins sort this out soon.

Does anyone have a link i can follow to get 51.1.1

The version you want is 52.1.1 (there's no 51.1.1):

Hi sfhowes,

Thought that might be the case as i usually download the exe's and keep them just in case.

Unfortunately reverting to 52.1.1 did not solve them problem. Neither did 52.1.0, 52.0 or 45.8.0.

I have added my gmail into Mailbird, eM Client and Microsoft Mail and so far only Mailbird is working (ie downloading and sending emails).

I'd prefer to stay with Thunderbird so hopefully there will be a resolution soon.

Now updated to the latest version 52.2.1 (32-bit) and the issue still exists.

I got briefly excited yesterday as Microsoft's Mail was working with my three gmails, but alas today it is no longer doing so.

Mailbird is still working.

I have the same issue. I was recieving all emails for gmail and outlook , no problem, then gmail stopped working. I did all the stuff mentioned above, including allowing less secure apps, but no joy. So I uninstalled an reinstalled TB - now I cant connect to gmail at all.

When I try and add a gmail account, TB says that gmail is already confiured, even though I cant see gmail in my inbox.

Help!

All this trouble with T-Bird and I am disappointed after nearly a decade of using the app. Much stuff stored and will be lost ? if i reinstall. etc.
