Why isn't the Google toolbar displaying on Firefox or even in my extensions once it's downloaded ('Run' multiple times!)?

more options

I downloaded the Google toolbar on Firefox, clicked on 'Run' when the window came up, restarted it as requested, and it didn't appear on my screen. I looked in Add-ons/Extensions and it's not even in there! I've clicked on the download arrow 3 times now, run it, and restarted it. Where is the toolbar?!!! Appreciate any fixes specific to this problem. Thanks!

It’s possible that there is a problem with the file(s) that store the extensions registry.

Type about:support in the address bar and press enter.

Under the page logo on the left side, you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Folder. To its right press the button Show Folder. This will open your file browser to the current Firefox profile. Now Close Firefox.

Delete all extensions files and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry.

New files will be created when required.

After, restart Firefox.

See "Corrupt extension files":

Hi MareTrailRunner, what did you download? Can you give the page you downloaded from and point to what it was?

As Happy112 notes, the official Google toolbar stopped working in Firefox a long time ago, so I'm concerned about whether you might have installed something dangerous.

This was the page I downloaded it from. https://tools.google.com/dlpage/toolbar/eula.html?hl=en-GB Thanks for the info, Happy112. It's at least good to know it's horrid Firefox not allowing it and not anything else. Thanks everyone for replying!

That's a toolbar for Internet Explorer.

Google discontinued its toolbar for Firefox after Firefox 4. See: http://googletoolbarhelp.blogspot.com/2011/07/update-on-google-toolbar-for-firefox.html
