Since the big win 10 update and ff update I can not download anything! Wanted to try old version FF but can't even download that. I think it's a Windows issue?

Hi john1969, what happens when you try to download a file -- do you get an error message?

Can you save linked downloads using right-click > Save Link As? (Note: that doesn't usually work with button-driven downloads)

I notice you have NoScript. Some sites may use scripts to "push" the download, so check for blocked scripts using NoScript's toolbar button if a page is not working normally.

More generally, you might want to test in Firefox's Safe Mode. In its Safe Mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, any userChrome.css/userContent.css files, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox. (On Mac, hold down the option/alt key instead of the Shift key.)

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" Help button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • (menu bar) Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Any improvement?

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support to see if that has effect in case security software is causing problems.
