I have an HP Chromebook that is up to date. Recently Firefox flashes black for a second then comes back. It does this continously while I type or scroll on websites making it very difficult to use.

I have searched and found that on Chromebooks, Firefox does not have a Safe or Troubleshoot mode. Firefox does not do this on my Android tablet (Samsung) or Android phone (S21+) just on the Chromebook. It started maybe 2 weeks ago (today is 09/05/21).

The troubleshooting issues I've seen with flashing black screens apply to Windows, etc, and not to Chromebooks or Android in general. I don't want to use Chrome, do use Duck Duck Go browser for a lot of things but for regular websites I frequent I use Firefox. It's flashed about 60 times while I've written this.

Any suggestions?

Hi

Which version do you have installed? Are you using Firefox for Android or Firefox for desktop on that device?

I uninstalled and reinstalled. It's Android, got it through the Play Store. It's still flashing. Just after I posted the last comment Firefox crashed.

If there's a different version to install on a Chromebook I'm not aware.

Hi

I recommend that you give the full desktop version a try. This guide will walk you through how to install it:

Thanks for the link Seburo. I tried that last night. My Chromebook is nearly full but I was able to install the Linux. I ran the command code to see which version and it came back with a different version of Linux, I'm not around that Chromebook now so can't check it again. At any rate, I ran the next code and it came back blank so got stuck there.

I'm not a computer programmer but do have some experience. The instructions given there did not work on my laptop.
