Hi there Why does Firefox 102.1 Android sometimes show "Install" instead of "Add to Home Screen" in the dropdown menu when I want to add a website page to my home screen? Why does it do this with some sites and not with others? Can I prevent Firefox from showing "Install"? Thanks for any help. Ian

Hi

Some pages makes themselves available as a Progressive Web App - an almost app like experience from a web page (you can read the details of this at: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/Progressive_web_apps).

If you just want to have them as a shortcut, the easiest way is to open the page in Firefox for Android, turn off WiFi and mobile data, and then save is as a shortcut to your Android homescreen.

I hope that this helps.

Thanks, Paul for this lighting fast reply!

My problem was that a website that I manage, was not updating properly when I clicked its icon on the home screen. I never prepared this website as a web app, with json mainfest and so on, so I'm wondering why it gets this special treatment from Firefox. Anyway, thanks for the tip.

No problem, glad we could help.

I am not an expert in this side of it, but this article may help you to diagnose what is triggering the site to install as a PWA:
