Firefox changed the way it displays url suggestions

more options

I go to Yahoo.com for email several times daily. I rarely go to Youtube.com .

I believe the order that url suggestions (and autocomplete) come up has changed in one of Firefox's updates and now, as soon as I type the "y", Firefox suggests Youtube.com . I go to Yahoo.com a hundred times for any one time I might visit Youtube and Yahoo would come first alphabetically so I would assume it would "suggest" Yahoo before Youtube.

My guess is that Firefox decides on which site is more popular during daily browsing but this was not the case before.

I have tried several methods to attempt to control the order the suggestions appear but Youtube still autocompletes as soon as I type the "y".

Any way to change this to my liking? Or is this just the way it is and will be?

I've attached a screenshot but I edited it to obliterate a few id's and personal information from the example url's.

Hi RobertJ

Let me apologize for not replying sooner but I'm going through one of life's problems caused by a computer. In my case, a corrupt credit bureau database. I only wish this on my worst enemies.

Anyway, I've tried all the settings and suggestions in the 3 URLs you provided and I was trying them before I wrote my original query here. They are either too broad or do not respond to the individual action.

For example. If I type 'y' in the address bar, youtube.com comes up as an autocomplete suggestion just like I have stated as my issue. If I type "Shift-Delete" to erase the entry, the 'y' remains and if I want to go to yahoo.com I need to type the next letter which is of course 'a'. But if I try to return to yahoo.com, and type 'y' in the address bar again, it did not delete the autocomplete entry of youtube.com and it is the auto-fill suggestion again.

I also tried turning off "Suggestions from sponsors" in case youtube was working with Firefox and is at the top of the list for that reason. It had no effect on the outcome.

This is a mild nuisance and I can certainly live with it but it is very curious to me that I visit yahoo many more times than youtube AND yahoo would come first if it was an alphabetically sorted list.

So, if I/we could determine why youtube comes before yahoo in any list, it might answer my question.

Now I have another question which is described in my attempts to answer the original question. What is "Shift-Delete" doing other than acting as a one time delete for the suggestion?

Please let me know what comes up when you type 'y' in the address bar? I do not need to know any private sites, just whether youtube comes before yahoo for you like it does for me.
