Profile transfer after computer crash and reset

My computer crashed - BSOD - would not go into windows. I decided to do the reset process. Concern was that I would lose my emails and address books. routing rules. etc, so I removed my SSD and borrowed my neighbors laptop, copied the Thunderbird profile from the SSD to a thumb drive. Then I did the computer reset, it seemed to work fine. Then reinstalled Thunderbird and set up my mail account so I have the "old profile" file on the thumb drive and the 'new profile' on the computer supporting Thunderbird. The old profile data is much larger in size and content than the new profile data. Question is: Can I use the files from the 'old profile' and add them to the 'new profile' Or must I start over in the now-running Thunderbird??
