Just as the question says. Firefox 4 will underline misspelled words, a dictionary is selected, check spelling is ticked, only when right-clicking the misspelled word the only options are the same as clicking in the box without any misspelled words:

undo cut copy paste delete select all check spelling (which is checked) languages page info (and four extension items -- for noscript, colorzilla, webdeveloper, and a downloadhelper)

It worked before Firefox 4--it stopped working as soon as the new version was installed.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

See:

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.

  • Use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.
  • Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

Apparently it was a menu editor addon (odd, as I thought I had disabled/removed that before)... it seems to function now.

I've followed the instructions here, restarted in safe mode with add-ons disabled and I'm still having the exact same problem described above in safe mode. The misspelled word is being underlined, the dictionary is showing as english/us, but when I right click on the misspelled word, I'm getting general editing options (as described in the original post above) and not any spelling suggestions.

As with the original poster, I had firefox and everything worked, then upgraded to FF4 and the spell check feature stopped working.

Any help on what to do now would be greatly appreciated
