In some of the help questions as to spell check not working, I have seen the statement that spell check in firefox just works in text windows. Is my windows mail not in a text window? How do I make it so?

I have the option checked as for spell check to work as I type, and it used to work on my emails. It hasn't worked for a long time and when I manually choose spell check, it says something like "that language is no longer available." Also I see in some of the answers (to others who have had problems) that fire fox spell check works only in text windows. Could someone please tell me what text windows means, and in addition as to what my problem really is?

You can see which dictionary is selected if you right-click in a text area and open the Languages submenu.
You can open the "Add Dictionaries" link to install a dictionary if you do not have one.
Make sure that [X] "Check Spelling" in the right-click context menu has a tick.

You can enable or disable spell checking globally:

  • Tools > Options > Advanced : General: Browsing: "Check my spelling as I type"
