Firefox crashes continually, except in safe mode. We can't update because later editions don't have safe mode and they continually crash. We are using 3.6.13

You are 9 updates behind the latest Firefox 3.6.22 release version - every update had multiple security patches. All newer Firefox versions (4.0 and later) have a SafeMode, but it is activated differently than in the 3.6 and older versions.

See this for information about getting help for those crashes.

Also, you have number of plugins that are severely put of data and need to be updated.

Hi the-edmeister We do realise we are well behind the latest version, the reason for this is the newer versions do not work, they crash on regular basis and we have to revert the image back to this version. The links sent in reply to my first question do not start Firefox in safe mode they just start Firefox. Nobody is prepared (or even knows) to tell us how to start Firefox in safe mode in all the up-to-date versions. The plugins we are using are set in the old image we keep restoring, if we try to updtae them the crashes start again, so life goes on in the slow lane.

See:

Firefox 4+ versions no longer create an entry in the start menu too start in Safe mode.
You can hold down the Shift key while starting or add the -safe-mode switch to the command line in a copy of the desktop shortcut.

  • Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

In Firefox 4 and later Safe mode disables extensions and disables hardware acceleration.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.
