Check your addons page - Tools => Addons - for an extension named TabBrowser. If you have it then disable it or even remove (best choice) as it is very old and out of date. The latest extension of that type is TabMixPlus.

That is not a file added by an extension, but a build-in file stored in omni.jar

Do you have a lot of tab open?

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

No. That shouldn't happen with only three tabs open.

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.

If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

I am having this problem - 5 times today. I had one or two tabs open but a new blank tab opened, then I got the message above, clicked "stop script" but then was unable to close any of the tabs. I was on Facebook, logged out and closed the browser but as the window was about to close I got the warning "you are about to close x number of tabs." The thing is, it always says one tab more than is actually showing (including the blank one).

If I open new tabs after stopping the script, I cannot close them either, but no matter how many I open, the warning always says I have one tab more open than I can see. I *am* able to continue browsing but like I said, new tabs won't close. The only way to correct it is to close Firefox and reopen.

This happened maybe once or twice a month before I downloaded the latest version of Firefox, but I was always able to stop the script and continue browsing. This new problem is really annoying.
