from past couple of days i have been experiencing frequent hanging of firefox, even when the browser is closed and only download in DTA plugin or firefox download manager are running.

Windows tells that the program is nor responding. and cpu and network usage are almost nil after it hangs. and ram useage will be about 150 to 170MB

I downloaded firefox from the firefox website and reinstalled it but the problem continues. i also reinstalled flash plugin from adobe website.

So you say that the problem keeps running in the background after you close the window? Or is it that the window is actually showing, but it's not allowing you to interact with it (e.g. it's frozen)? If the former, try the steps here: https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Firefox%20is%20already%20running%20but%20is%20not%20responding?s=not+responding&r=0&as=s

If the latter, try these instructions instead: https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Firefox%20hangs?s=not+responding&r=1&as=s

Please respond back here so we know if this solved your problem. Good luck!
