in IE we could highlight a section of a page and click selection after setting properties in Firefox when we do so it gives us a blue bar and in the lower right corner our printer icon appears for a minute and nothing happens we are able to print for Print Preview but that gives us the complete page and does not allow us to print a selected area

You should use this add-on to help you select the area you want to print. http://rockyourfirefox.com/2011/10/print-edit/

Hope that helps! Reply if you don't understand, or need further guidance.

Kind Regards, Aaron.
