says I have outdated version & need upgrade. Upon upgrade and it says still outdated. Sites won't function with "old" version. Frustrating!

Your useragent says you are running 3.6.26 - this is the latest version of 3.6 branch, but the latest version of Firefox is 10.0.1. You should consider upgrading to the latest version.

What is telling you to update? A webpage? What URL?

If you have installed version 10.0.1, then your useragent is messed up and you should do the following:

  • Type about:config in the URL bar and hit Enter
  • If you see the warning, you can confirm that you want to access that page.
  • Filter = general.useragent.
  • Right-click the preferences that are bold, one line at a time, and select Reset.
  • Then restart Firefox
