Gmail desktop new format comes up in Firefox as Android format, unreadable on desktop computer. Why? Changed to Safari for readable Gmail.

I have used Firefox for many years for my Gmail account. The system changed over yesterday afternoon, and does not provide an option to change back to old format. Format is VERY tiny and completely unreadable. There is not obvious setting feature to change this. i was forced to open a new Safari browser in order to use my Gmail account, as it is not usable in the new format in Firefox.
