Firefox 25, Mac 10.8 If I try to delete more than 10 bookmarks at a time or a folder with bookmarks in it, FF hangs, then says there's a script that isn't running properly & do I want to continue or stop the script - I've tried continuing but it just hangs again, and I've tried stopping the script but it still hangs.. I've restarted FF, turned off Sync, turned on Sync. I tried exporting my bookmarks to html, to edit them in a file then re-import them, but the file was incomplete - it did not contain all the folder in My Bookmarks. Deleting bookmarks has been a pain ever since Sync was introduced, and Firefox doesn't have an official iOS app and the 3rd party ones don't work consistently, so I don't get much use from sync

Does this also happen if you disable Sync temporarily?

Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.

Hello

That was the first thing i read. it tells one how to delete bookmarks one at a time inside any given folder, but not how to delete the folder itsef.

Deleting more than one bookmark or folder

 1. At the top of the Firefox windowOn the menu bar, click Bookmarks, then select Organize Bookmarks.... The Library window will appear.
 2. In the left pane, click on the folder you want to view. Its contents will appear in the right pane.
 3. In the right pane, click to select the item(s) you want to delete.
 4. With the items to be deleted selected, click on the Organize button and then select Delete.

I would like to make a few comments to make this more helpful :

There is no way to select more than one item at a time in the right pane in the mac environnement. The delele in the organize pull down menu only deletes bookmarks. In order to delete a folder, one has to select the folder in the left pane, and then click on the Edit button and then select Delete.

It took me a long time to figure this out. I thought it might be helpful to others.

I'm sorry, I wasn't clear in stating my problem. I understand how to delete both bookmarks and folders containing bookmarks according to the instructions, and have done so easily in the past. But, since update to FF25 I haven't been able to delete a folder with bookmarks in it or more than 10-12 bookmarks at a time.

I resolved the issue by quitting FF, importing my bookmarks into Chrome, using Chrome's import as FF also was not exporting a complete bookmark list. I cleared out some duplicates in Chrome, exported bookmarks from Chrome to an html file, removed the places sqlite file from my profile, deleted all FF bookmarks, and imported the bookmarks html file into FF, which created a new & functional places sqlite file with the same set of bookmarks as at the beginning. I can only think the places file was corrupted somehow during the update as that was the only file I had to delete to fix the issue - I can now move & delete folders with hundreds of bookmarks in them and delete as many bookmarks as needed at one time.

"There is no way to select more than one item at a time in the right pane in the mac environnement. " (sic)

I think you mean there is no way to delete more than 1 item at a time in the LEFT panel, the list of folders, not in the right panel, the list of bookmarks and the contents (bookmarks) of subfolders.

That was what I thought it was at first, I'm not thrilled with Sync right now because the ios app is 3rd party & not reliable, but Sync is handy for resetting FF on laptop. First thing I tried was to disable all Sync, cleared caches, quit, restarted computer, and not fixed. Even tried signing out of Sync, but no joy. The only thing that worked was pulling bookmarks & history into Chrome to save the info, then deleting the places sqlite file & all bookmarks from FF - which is where bookmarks & history live now, which is a pain, it was so easy to access the bookmarks/history.html files. Then exported clean html files for bookmarks & history from Chrome & imported them into the empty FF. Everything's fine now, but it was a bore to sort it out & I had to dig to figure out that the bookmarks.json files in my profile do NOT contain my bookmarks.
