Cannot print emails on Yahoo. Is this a Firefox problem?

Cannot print emails on Yahoo. Is this a Firefox problem? I can click on print and the email opens in a new window, but when I click on print at the top of this new window it just beeps. The only other option on this window is "close this window"

Did printing used to work before and stopped working recently?

To test how Firefox runs "uncustomized" on your system, could you do a two-minute experiment?

Create a new Firefox profile

A new profile will have your system-installed plugins (e.g., Flash) and extensions (e.g., security suite toolbars), but no themes, other extensions, or other customizations. It also should have completely fresh settings databases and a fresh cache folder.

Exit Firefox and start up in the Profile Manager using Start > search box (or Run):

firefox.exe -P

Any time you want to switch profiles, exit Firefox and return to this dialog.

You'll click the Create Profile button. I recommend using the default location suggested (don't click the button to choose a different folder). Then start Firefox in the new profile you created.

Can you get the print dialog in the new profile?

If yes, there probably is an issue with one of your settings files or extensions. If no, your installation of Firefox might be corrupted. Rather than insert pages of instructions at this point, could you report back on the results of the test first?

When returning to the Profile Manager to get back to your normal settings, you might be tempted to use the Delete Profile button. But... it's a bit too easy to accidentally delete your "real" profile, so I recommend resisting the temptation. If you do want to clean up later, I suggest making a backup of all your profiles first in case something were to go wrong.

Could you clarify which platform has this problem? You posted from a Windows PC but your question ended up mentioning Firefox OS (a mobile device operating system)...

Assuming Windows:

I'm not sure why the print button doesn't work. What those usually do is run the JavaScript command window.print().

How about if you press Ctrl+p, which should call up the same dialog. Does it open then?

more options

Yes, windows PC running Mozilla Firefox browser and yahoo mail.

Cntrl Print did not help. When I open yahoo mail and want to print an email it will open the email in another window and give me two options; ie Print or Close Window. Clicking on Print just gives me a BEEP. Cntrl Print does the same. I have been copying the email to Word and printing from there.

Actually, I meant Ctrl+p on the keyboard. This is a standard shortcut in Windows applications to call up the print dialog that should work when the menu bar is not shown. Does that work?

more options

Yes. I meant ctrl p also. BEEP.

Can you call up the print dialog in a normal tab, i.e., not a popup window, using either:

  • Ctrl+p
  • orange Firefox button (or File menu) > Print

(Note: the above menu path is for Firefox 28; Firefox beta (29) has a new menu setup.)

more options

No. I cannot call up the print dialogue in a normal tab from either one. BEEP is all I get. I appreciate your help.
