Try to rename the cert8.db file in the Firefox profile folder to cert8.db.old or delete the cert8.db file to remove intermediate certificates that Firefox has stored.

If that helped to solve the problem then you can remove the renamed cert8.db.old file. Otherwise you can rename (or copy) the cert8.db.old file to cert8.db to restore the previous intermediate certificates. Firefox will automatically store intermediate certificates when you visit websites that send such a certificate.

If that didn't help then remove or rename secmod.db (secmod.db.old) as well.

You can check the connection settings.

If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then try to select "No Proxy" if "Use the system proxy settings" or one of the others do not work properly.

See "Firefox connection settings":

Hey cor-el, thanks for the reply. Yep, tried all that. No go.

now, what's "odd", (after I flushed the certdb--figured would have to reaccet/authorize sites).

I just fired up my browser. Everything looks ok (ex-the "Browser layout/the blank launch page, etc).

Howevever *THIS SITE* (as I type) GrubHub.com

it's *OLD OLD OLD school HTML (in safe mode and normal mode). Like V.1.0 of the web.

In safe mode (and normal actually)

Everything is "plain Text"---"Bold" where is should be,a link where should be, etc.

But like 101-HTML.

Of course (in normal mode) Grubhub won't accept the SSL Cert (even with a "bypass warning).

re:*this site* https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1004473#answer-586479

Old school AS with Grubhub

OK, now even more strange.

Tried http://www.webmproject.org/tools/

Presentation layer is as designed. Expected. *BIG SHRUG*

FYI--I flushed the Certdb last night, restarted browser, went to bed.

But kept it open to pages I would need tonight.,

This (Presentation layer) looks just line (the page I opened immediately after flushing certdb last night)

Rebooted,etc.etc.

Looks "GOOD" as expected http://lifehacker.com/386526/slipstream-service-pack-3-into-your-windows-xp-installation-cd

But again (Firefox) not working

https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/?utm_source=firefox-com&utm_medium=referral

Thus "must be" an SSL ("rendering"/ type) issue????

AS

Only HTTPS not working.

@ Cor-el Mystery continues.... __________________________________________________ I rebooted into *WINDOWS XP PRO SAFE MODE*. Now things *WORK* (*WITH* the Extensions enabled). Thus, this makes me think it's a start up item/task--that's doing this?

__________________________________________________ 1st As per another help article, I've made sure Kaspersky is not scanning the SLL files.

However, this looks suspicious to me. Never seen this before. __________________________________________________ O23 - Service: CryptoStorage control service (CSObjectsSrv) - Infowatch - C:\Program Files\Common Files\InfoWatch\CryptoStorage\ProtectedObjectsSrv.exe

Even more strange. VirusTotal has no records at all of "ProtectedObjectsSrv" *BUT* if you Google it, there's lots of talk about it (don't see virus consensus). Possible Kaspersky installed. (??)

__________________________________________________ When I went into services. I noticed some have changed "status" as well. EX-I'm 100% positive I "Disabled" Automatic Updates after XP was sunset (didn't want it pinging, checking for updates)---that was set to "Auto0matic" again.(from "Disabled")

With other random services changed.

__________________________________________________ I know this is not an XP Support forum, but you think this is a "Suspect" to chase down????

Since this (to my mind) "Must be" a start up task??? (EX---before posting help---I sent through and disabled all suspects----Symantec Firewall--"Allow All", "Peer Block" = Allow All,etc.
