When I open Firefox I get an email page that is operated by Verizon. How can I eliminate this Verizon connection? It requires me to have an account with Verizon that pertains to telephone service at my home. This is nonsense. I am operating an iMac with system 10.6.8.

It is possible that your ISP sends such a page in case of certain conditions, so you may have to contact them for support.

You can check the target line in the Firefox desktop shortcut (right-click: Properties) to make sure that nothing is appended after the path to the Firefox program.

There's no requirement to accept the complementary email accounts offered by Internet Service Providers. Even if there was, it wouldn't be enforced by Firefox.

Maybe what you're seeing is a Home Page pointing to Verizon but you can ignore that and open another tab to sign in to your regular email account.

To change what you see when you open Firefox, click Tools > Options > General. Go to When Firefox Starts: then select from the drop-down list - perhaps Show a blank page. Or go to the Home Page: line and change what you wish to save as your Home Page.

When I click on the Tools button, I do not see any item labelled Options. Therefore I cannot go to General. I cannot follow any of your other suggestions. Thank you for your efforts. This is the third time I have attempted to use Firefox over several years unsuccessfully. I will stick with Safari since it is more user friendly.

My apologies if I've made some wrong assumptions. I notice you're actually listed as using a Mac. My menu suggestions were based on Windows.

Instead of Tools > Options, it appears you should be clicking Firefox > Preferences.

Another easy way to re-set your Home Page is to open the page you prefer to see at start-up, then click and drag the tab over the Home symbol on your tool bar.

Please let me know if there's anything else you need help on so I can get additional tips to help you enjoy the full use of your Firefox browser.

I know that you are trying to help, but I am not a computer expert. When I click Firefox and then Preferences, I get a Security window. When I quit the Security window, I am able to get the General window which indicates that I can open on the Home Page. I do not know how to open the Home Page.I also do not know how to open a page I prefer to see at Start Up. I also do not know how to select a tab for this page. Thus I am unable to click and drag the tab to the Home symbol on my tool bar. This is an incredibly difficult procedure as compared to dealing with Apple software and especially Safari browser. I know that this is not your fault, but a fault of the system.

You say "I also do not know how to open a page I prefer to see at Start Up." This simply means any website you have open, which you would like to see as the default page when you open your Firefox browser.

So if you want your Gmail or Yahoo page to be the first thing you see when you open Firefox, just follow the above procedures to make it your Home Page.

Do you honestly not know how to handle tabs in a browser? Most / All modern browsers facilitate multiple tab browsing. When you open Firefox and look at the top left you'll see a tab labelled according to the page you're at. to the right of that is a + sign where you can click to get another tab without closing the first one.

With multiple tabs open, whichever one has the website you wish to use as a Home Page instead of Verizon, is the one you need to drag to the Home symbol on your toolbar.

If your Firefox tabs don't look like what I've described, please take a screenshot and post it here in the forum for us to examine.

When I had submitted previous replies, I was not able to see the tabs you were referring to. All I saw was a Verizon window having to do with a Verizon account for email. There were no visible tabs. Today when I opened Firefox to try your suggestions again, I got the appropriate window not the Verizon window. I could see a tab and I clicked the + next to it. I then entered the netpenny.net website that I use for my emails. I moved its tab to the Home Page and was able to access my email. When I tried to correspond to you on the Firefox email, I ran into problems. I believe that I can solve them by working with the Firefox instructions. Thank you again for your help and your patience in dealing with me.
