my inbox email size does not change, despite my having deleted many emails. As I delete them, the number of emails in my inbox decreases but the size does not. Now I get a message that says I can not receive more emails since my inbox is full. I called Verizon-they checked my webmail and I am receiving new emails so it is a problem with Thunderbird.

You need to compact folders. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Compacting_folders

Also make sure you do have a recent backup of your profile folder. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Thunderbird_:_FAQs_:_Backing_Up_and_Restoring

Thank you. I had it set for the default but just did this manually and it took care of it.
