I am using Thunderbird 38.7.2 on a Windows 7 Professional PC.

I am sending various people high resolution photographs as attachments with a BCC back to myself.

When I receive the BCC email the text in my message shows correctly on the screen with the attached photograph below.

When I print the email the text in the printed message is so small that I can not read it.

Can someone tell me why this is happening?

Is this because of the high resolution photograph that is attached?

How can I fix this so the printed text is the normal size so I can read it. I assume that the person I am sending the email with attachment has the same problem when they try to print the message.

Thanks very much. Bill

Chosen solution

Right click the toolbar and turn on the menu bar if it is turned off.

on the view menu deselect view attachments inline. Does that change the way the message prints?

Matt thanks for your reply. I have discovered from the File menu > Print Print Preview the scaling was set to shrink to fit. I changed it to 100% and it appears to fix the problem.

I followed your instruction above and the view attachments inline was selected so I deselected it.

Please tell me what view attachments inline means as I have always wondered.

Thanks very much for your help.

If an attachment is say a JPG or PNG or an email or text file, Thunderbird displays the attachment at the end of the email. With it turned on, I would assume the image is also printed as it is displayed. So turning the option off reduces what is displayed automatically, but it also can affect printing .

For example if your image is an attachment (I am assuming) then what was probably half a dozen lines of text becomes a high resolution graphic that needs to be printed over many pages. Or in your case shrunk to fit and the text goes with it.

Matt, thank you for the great explanation. Have a great week.
