Hi, In Firefox there are little X's also. If in Options under Tabs you can turn on Tab Preview so when you mouse over the Tabs in the Task Bar you get a Preview. You can also close them from there.

If no x's suggest : Please Refresh but do this 1st: Delete your Cookies and Cache and TEST.

then

TEST....... If no issues then Extensions which need to be added back in 1 at a time and tested ..... Or it is your Profile : Make a new one and test ...:

If is your Profile :

Note: Any customization will revert back to default, you will also need to reinstall Extensions.

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

Firefox hides the close X on not active tabs if there are many tabs open. That is to prevent closing a tab accidentally if you would click the tab to select it. If you have a mouse with a clickable scroll wheel then you can close a tab with a middle-click.
