I take large pictures with my camera, put them on my computer, right click on the picture, choose send to email message, it asks if I want to make the pictures smaller and sends them. It has done this for years and now there's an error message. " There is no program associated with this request". I looked in the settings and the default email program is Thunderbird. Rebooted a couple of times and still get the same message. I can send the picture as an attachment but it sends it the original size.

re : I can send the picture as an attachment but it sends it the original size. So thunderbird itself is working ok.

Check the following 'Mailto' settings in your computer.

Double check your computer protocol 'MAILTO' setting is also 'Thunderbird'.

  • Control Panel > Default Programs >Associate a file type or protocol with a program

Protocols:

  • MAILTO needs to be set as Thunderbird.

Please check registry key:

  • 'Start' > 'Run' > type: regedit
  • click on 'OK'

Locate this registry entry:

  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Clients\Mail
  • on right side double click on 'Default'
  • Enter 'Mozilla Thunderbird' in 'Value Data'
  • click on 'OK'
