Upgraded FF to 73.0.1 and it broke https://thejigsawpuzzles.com/mystery-puzzle-6536101?cutout=50spiral AND http://jigsawonline.net/M1392-M-2006-jigsaw.aspx

I do jigsaw puzzles on two web sites, https://thejigsawpuzzles.com/mystery-puzzle-6536101?cutout=50spiral AND http://jigsawonline.net/M1392-M-2006-jigsaw.aspx. My new Dell Inspiron 3670 with FF 72.0.1 was working just fine. I upgraded to FF 73.0.1 and now these two web sites freeze. I have to shutdown FF and restart it to make them work. It worked fine with 72.0.1 and it works on my old Dell Inspiron with 72.0.1. I reloaded 72.0.1 on my new Dell and now these sites are working again.  ? ? ? ? ? I uninstalled Flashplayer and reinstalled it.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Thanks Fred. It all works fine in safe mode. It seems I was wrong about running OKAY in Ver 72.0.1. When I uninstall 73.0.1 and try to load 72.0.1 the default setting is to automatically update to the latest version. I can't change it to notify me but not update before it automatically updates. I like to run FF in a private window but if I start FF in safe mode and then open a private window it still breaks. I haven't changed any extensions or installed any add-ins. It was working with 72.0.1 and as soon as it updated to 73.0.1 this all started.

It could be the work of one of your add-ons, or it could be Hardware Acceleration. How to disable Hardware Acceleration {web link}

Type about:addons<enter> in the address bar to open your Add-ons Manager. Hot key; <Control> (Mac=<Command>) <Shift> A)

In the Add-ons Manager, on the left, select Extensions. Disable a few add-ons, then Restart Firefox.

Some added toolbar and anti-virus add-ons are known to cause Firefox issues. Disable All Of them.

If the problem continues, disable some more (restarting FF). Continue until the problem is gone. After, you know what group is causing the issue. Re-enable the last group ONE AT A TIME (restarting FF) until the problem returns.

Once you think you found the problem, disable that and re-enable all the others, then restart again. Let us know who the suspect is, detective.

How do you completely turn off update checks in Firefox v64? You can use a policies.json file to disable updates for all users. https://github.com/mozilla/policy-templates/blob/master/README.md or https://winaero.com/blog/disable-updates-firefox-63-above/

The first jigsaw puzzle works just fine for me; no need to turn off or disable anything,

The second puzzle doesn't work at all, no matter what I turn off or disable.

That puzzle doesn't work in Edge either (for me, anyway).

Maybe open the web console and see what you get there (Ctrl + Shift + K)

Maybe you'd like to give this site a try; it does not use Flash :

The first link uses HTML canvas to display the puzzle. The second link uses the Shockwave Flash plugin (uses an OBJECT/EMBED tag to load Flash; Firefox will use EMBED), so you will have to allow Flash to make the puzzle show up.

Does Flash otherwise work like on the Adobe test page ?

Both sites use Flash; the first site works just fine (for me).

The second site (after allowing Flash) doesn't work at all for me (neither in Firefox nor in Edge); to bring up the web console one minute I can use the keyboard shortcut; next minute I have to use the 3-bar menu => Web Developer to open the web console, where I get "not a valid JavaScript MIME type,

The site I linked to in my last post doesn't use Flash, which means that it will still work when it's the end-of-life for Flash .... Another pro : the site is very customizable.

The first link still works with Flash set to never activate using builtin HTML5. If the website detects the Flash plugin then it will want to use Flash, only with Flash disabled there is a fallback. The second link does nothing without enabling Flash and will have to update to HTML5 code.

For me it does nothing with Flash enabled (in both Firefox and Edge).

Stab in the dark : could it have something to do with "somefrogs.com" ?

Sorry to burgle this thread but I'm in a similar boat. Allowed the 73.0.1 update to proceed and it (73.0.1) broke a banking website (www.citibank.com.au) that was fine under FF72 (and earlier). Now unable to do my banking on the desktop. Mobile banking app works fine.

The normal home page has a different appearance (since this morning's session under FF72). As soon as I hit login, it loads something off their MOBILE site and then locks me on a T&C page with no escape.

Hello Pedro,

Well, you're a friendly burglar, so that's alright. I'm not so sure about the similar boat; both you and the OP are on a shaky boat ride, but there's where the similarity ends ....

Would you be so kind as to start a new thread and post a question using this link :

Easily done.

@ spikejones,

Would you consider giving this site a try :

https://www.jigsawplanet.com

Like I mentioned before : the site doesn't use Flash, which means that it will still work when it's the end-of-life for Flash.

Another pro : the site is very customizable.

With sites that still use Flash there is always the chance that they won't have made the switch from Flash to HTML in time, and then you won't be able to play their games at all.
