thunderbird recently updated and now a password is required to see saved passwords. i never set up a master password. I don't have a windows account password either. How can I see my saved passwords or revert back to the version i had before? i never needed a password to see saved passwords and I am unhappy.

if you have no windows account password, which is what is being asked for by windows, then try entering and empty password. Otherwise check with your computer supplier as the the password they set for you.
