Adding a parent folder to Thunderbird installed location files

Hi

I installed Thunderbird in a spare and empty hard-drive (500gb) as opposed to default C Drive folder.

I would normally add a specific folder and then direct the install to go to the newly created folder, as this hard drive was empty I overlooked doing that in this instance.

The result is Thunderbird has nearly 80 files in the hard drive not neatly grouped. It would be a bit messy using this hard-drive for anything else.

I would like to add a parent folder i.e. Thunderbird. But when i do this I need to point the Thunderbird to location "Local Disk H:\Thunderbird" instead of its current path of "Local Disk H:"

Can i do this at a directory level and avoid and complete relocation and rebuilding of mailbox database?

Cheers!

What you're looking at (as per your screenshot), are Thunderbird's program files. Thunderbird does not store your mailboxes in the same place as the program files. It uses the profile folder for that. See Profiles - Where Thunderbird stores your messages and other user data

You can safely uninstall Thunderbird (removes its program files only) then reinstall it in that parent directory. I suggest creating a parent folder called Programs then have the Thunderbird folder as its child, so the new installation path would be H:\Programs\Thundebird. This way, you can use the same Programs folder for other programs that you may wish to install on the spare hard drive, each program with its respective folder. It also helps to distinguish programs from other files.

Thanks, but you seem to have answered without actually reading anything in my posted question. Cheers, I'll await and answer on the question I had.

Which part of my response didn't you get? Is it perhaps the missing "Yes you can" answer?

a) I know what program files are. I have build PC's for 20 years. b) I actually typed the words "Local Disk H:\Thunderbird" in inverted commas and you "suggest" the exact same thing, so did you read my post at all?. c) I asked if i can create a parent folder and avoid having to uninstall and reinstall - and you suggested to uninstall and reinstall. So did you read my post at all?

And your question "Which part of my response didn't you get?" - You really just need to go back and re-read my initial question which you clearly didn't do and maybe just skip answering if you don't know the answer, which seems apparent at this stage.

Cheers buddy

Then my response should have made perfect sense.

b) I actually typed the words "Local Disk H:\Thunderbird" in inverted commas and you "suggest" the exact same thing, so did you read my post at all?.

Isn't that exactly what you want, to have Thunderbird's program files located in "H:\Thunderbird" instead of at the root of drive H? Did you expect a different path, e.g "Z:\Thunderbird", to imply I actually read and understood your reply?

c) I asked if i can create a parent folder and avoid having to uninstall and reinstall - and you suggested to uninstall and reinstall. So did you read my post at all?

Nowhere in your post, do you say you want to avoid reinstalling. Your words were, "Can i do this at a directory level and avoid and complete relocation and rebuilding of mailbox database"?

And your question "Which part of my response didn't you get?" - You really just need to go back and re-read my initial question which you clearly didn't do and maybe just skip answering if you don't know the answer, which seems apparent at this stage.

You're seriously starting to sound like an internet troll, and I'll gladly have the moderators send you back to troll-land if you're not here for the help that many other users are seeking.
