'First, thank you all in advance for your help. A week ago, my Verizon account stopped sending/receiving emails. Realized it was now on AOL but I want to continue using Thunderbird. I've tried every possible config. both manual and auto. I've tried both new & existing account but am continually getting stuck on checking password and then it fails. I've been using TBird for many years and would really like to continue with it, esp. since some of my photos are still sitting in the inbox.

Out of options :-((

Are you using *.verizon.net servers or *.aol.com servers, or a combination of both? For all aol.com servers, the authentication method should be OAuth2. For verizon.net servers, use 'normal password' authentication, but enter an app password into TB instead of the account password. For the case of e.g. imap.aol.com and smtp.verizon.net, use 'normal password' and an app password.
