YouTube says that I downloaded a video. It's shows that on my YouTube Premium (signed in) page. But I can't find it on my iMac.

Hello,

So, I tried to download a video from my YouTube Premium Account. According to the youtube webpage, that video was downloaded to my iMac. My FF 124.0.1 settings are set up to download to the Desktop. I am running Mac OS Sonoma 14.4.1

Yet the file is not there. I tried searching on the Support page for FF. Lots of articles but no real help. Tons of info about how to tweak the download but Nothing about Where that download ended up. I did give Permission in Settings for youtube.com to download to my iMac, but again, I can't find the file. In the Storage section, it shows 37.5 MB, so it should be on my iMac, right?

How is it possible for youtube.com to show that I downloaded the file but I can't find it?

I am totally at a loss. Never had anything like this happen before. Prior downloads have Always shown up on the Desktop.

Any thoughts? Thanks for your time.

John D

Hi John, if you check the Downloads list (Command+J), can you find it there? The list has a disk icon to find out where it was saved if it was downloaded successfully.

You mentioned Storage -- if YouTube is saving the video in "offline web storage" then it won't appear on the Downloads list, but it sounds like based on your past experience that isn't what they would be doing. Unless something changed?

Hello jscher2000,

Thanks for your reply. I did check the Downloads list and it's not there!

So, I figured it was in Storage but I can't find out how to access it. I searched multiple times with various queries on the Support page but never got an answer that was helpful.

How do I access Storage? YouTube says it was 37.5 MB that I downloaded but where did that file end up?

The only thing that I changed today was that I gave Permission to YouTube in Settings for downloads. Previously I had not done that. Prior to this change, everything I ever downloaded showed up on the Desktop. I just Assumed that this file would also end up on the Desktop. Looks like from your reply that it went somewhere else instead.

Can you tell me how to access this file? Thanks again for your time and help.

If it's in offline website storage, then you would need to access it through your YouTube downloads list. I'm not sure how to access that (I only use premium in the mobile app, not on my computer).

Try downloading another video and see what happens.
