I am using windows 7, 64 bit. After initial try at downloading Firefox, install was incomplete, message box says unable to locate 7-Zip. I downloaded 7-zip from 7-zip.org and put it in the same directory as the downloaded firefox. Still, message box pops up, unable to find 7-zip.

The Firefox setup file is self-extracting, it doesn't need the 7-Zip program to install Firefox. Your download of Firefox is probably corrupted, download it again, this time temporarily turn off your anti-virus program long enough to download Firefox.
