How long do the 3.6 and earlier versions store history? They say "older than 6 months, " but when I click that it' only shows exactly on the date of 6 mo. ago, not older than that. Can I see something 9 mo. ago?

I am trying to view some history from 9 months ago but when I click on "older than 6 months" and type in the keyword for what I'm searching for, it doesn't bring up anything later than 6 months to the date. Is it how I have my history set up? What is the longest firefox will store history?

The setting Tools > Options > Privacy > History: "Remember visited pages for at least" refers to the number of days kept in memory (default is 90 days).
The pref browser.history_expire_days (default 180 days) determines what is stored in places.sqlite on disk and overrides the setting in Options > Privacy.

Firefox 4, to be released next year, will have a single pref to enable or disable the history and will use other means to determine when to remove history items.
