I am trying to move my bookmarks to a new computer and the procedure on the website just doesn't work, everything looks right but when I open Firefox on the new computer the bookmarks aren't there, just the defaults.

The old computer is running Windows XP, the new one Windows 7. I copied the profile folder onto a USB jump drive and moved it to the new computer. When I paste the old profiles on the new computer profiles folder, all dates change to the current date and time but as I said when I restart Firefox and click on bookmarks I get nothing but the original defaults.

You need to copy the contents of the old Profile folder into the new Profile folder. Firefox won't recognize the name of that old Profile in the new installation.
