I want to see a full screen. Can I eliminate the horizontal strips that show my desktop background?

I just installed Firefox 4. Unlike previous versions, the browser screen is cropped at the top and the bottom. I want to get rid of the stripes along the top and bottom that show my desktop background, and devote the full area of my monitor to the browser window.
