Dear Sir, Madam,

I do have question about Firefox bookmarks.

I do have say an old computer A with Firefox 3.5/4 bookmarks.

How can I move those bookmarks to a new computer B.

If I search for help then there seems to be a so called Manage Bookmarks or Organise Bookmarks option in menu but I do not see in e.g. Firefox 4. I also do not see the Export option.

What is file on compter where all bookmarks stored?

Could you please assist how to export bookmarks from one computer A and import to computer B?

Thank you very much. Kind Regards, Marco Plas.

For best results:

(1) On your old computer, export your bookmarks to an HTML file. This article describes the steps for Firefox 3.5-3.6: Exporting bookmarks to an HTML file | How to | Firefox Help.

Note: The instructions for Firefox 4-5 refer to "Organize Bookmarks" but the item on the Bookmarks menu was renamed "Show All Bookmarks", and on the Firefox menu (orange button) you just click Bookmarks.

(2) On your new computer, import that HTML file. This article describes the steps for Firefox 5 (note the item on the Bookmarks menu was renamed "Show All Bookmarks", and on the Firefox menu (orange button) you just click Bookmarks): Importing Bookmarks from an HTML File | How to | Firefox Help.

Does it work?

Dear JSher, thanks so much. I will verfiy in weekend (as I do not have the computer right now available).

- Another quick solution I was thinking of: do you maybe know in which folder on harddisk those bookmarks have been stored for Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 for Firefox 4. This way I could copy just the files from one folder on one computer to right folder another computer.

- Do you maybe know how I am able to keep the same bookmarks in Firefox the same as in Internet Explorer? (some syncronization).

Thank you for help.

Kind Regards, M. Plas.

Firefox's bookmarks are stored in a database named places.sqlite (along with history) in your Firefox profile folder. There's no easy way to extract the contents without using Firefox's export feature.

To sync Firefox bookmarks with IE on an ongoing basis, there may be one or more add-ons. I haven't researched that.

To just use your IE favorites in Firefox, you could check out this one: PlainOldFavorites :: Add-ons for Firefox.

Okido, Thanks.

I believe the favorites in IE are also stored in folder on computer like Vista/Win7: c:/users/name/favorites. It seems just matter of copying. Seems in FF much more difficult to do same like you indicated. I will follow your suggestion to export and import bookmarks in FF on the applicable computers.

In case you would know how set up synchronization the bookmarks in Firefox to the favorites in Internet Explorer I would appreciate. So IE synchronized with FF.
