Prior to this update, you could double click next to a tab, to open a new one. This functions, seems not to work anymore.

If you have "Tabs on top" and the tabs bar is at the top of the toolbar then there is no empty space to click on to open a new tab.

You can make Firefox 7.0.1 look like Firefox 3.6.*, see numbered items 1-10 in the following topic Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 4.0 thru 8.0, look like 3.6). Whether or not you make changes, you should be aware of what has changed and what you have to do to use changed or missing features.

Double-click works for me to open a new Tab in Firefox 7.0.1 with Tabs on Top in an open area of the Tab Bar. With enough Tabs open to fill the Tab Bar, you need to find the "sweet spot" to double-click between the + to open a new Tab with the mouse and the List All Tabs button on the right-side of the Tab Bar.

If it ain't working for you, you may have an extension installed that is causing that problem.

Even with just a single tab open (and plenty of obvious space on the tab bar), double-clicking doesn't give me a new tab, but it maximizes the window.

Try a middle-click in empty space on the tab bar instead.
