Also I cannot sign out of gmail or yahoo. I get the arrow of the cursor but no hand hovers over the buttons.

This does not happen when I use safari. Most irritating as firefox is our choice and has got all my bookmarks etc.

Any suggestions ? I do not have much knowledge so spell it out!

The Yahoo! Toolbar extension and the Babylon extension have been reported to cause this issue. Disable or uninstall those add-ons.

Top of Firefox window non-responsive, toolbars non responsive -- also see Problematic extensions

The hand appears on links, but not on Firefox toolbar buttons. In the Firefox search and location bar the cursor changes to a vertical indicator for inputting text.

I can't simulate any signing out problems from GMail inbox.
