Spell check problem
The automatic spell checking function used to work on Firefox, but no longer does. The tick box under advanced options - general is set for checking as I type, and in Gmail the spell check function is set to 'auto', yet this does not work. I have to manuall select the Gmal function 'check spelling'. Even as I now type, errors are not corrected. With Chrome there is no problem. I suspect that the Firefox problem came with the last update . . . Please help. Thanks.

"The spell checker works manually but not as I type." Is there a chance that you have installed another spell checker? You can try to update that. Firefox has an in-built spell checker which works automatically once activated and perhaps there is a conflict after the Firefox update.

Hi,
Please check if this happens in Safe Mode.
Yes it is still a problem in safe mode.

You can try deleting the persdict.dat file if it exists in the profile folder: Help (Alt + H) > Troubleshooting Information > Open Containing Folder. The persdict.dat stores the manually added entries. Also try toggling the Check my spelling as I Type option on and off, restarting after each time.
Modified
Hi again
Thanks for your suggestions but they have not helped.
I deleted the persdict.dat file and un-ticked the 'spell check as you type' box, saved that, then opened options again and checked the box and saved that, then restarted firefox. The spell checker works manually but not as I type. I have an idea that this started with the latest update. Could this be?
Regards Colin
