Using Windows 7, Firefox 13.0.1. Today, msnbc.com switched to nbc.com. It appears normal on Chrome, IE, Opera & Safari. Firefox is my default. If I close all browser windows and open a new one my home page comes up. If I type in nbc.com the new page loads to the left as a window within my main window. I do not see a red x, minimize/maximize and hide tool. I cannot expand the page. I am offered a scroll bar down at the bottom and at right to navigate. Otherwise nbc.com looks normal. I see images and headlines. When I click on a link I get an error. The url does not appear in the address bar. If I open a new tab, I get the same thing.

Opening in the side bar is the default for bookmarks that are created via a link or button on a website.
You can check the Properties of a bookmark via the right-click context menu in the side bar (Ctrl+B; Cmd+B on Mac).
In the Bookmarks Manager (Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks) you can click the More button in the Details pane at the bottom right.
Make sure that "Load this bookmark in the side bar" is not selected.
