Why does firefox only occasionally restore tabs?

more options

I love firefox, but may have to return to chrome. Chrome restored my tabs everytime without fail, where as firefox does so occaisonally when shut down properly and never does if the computer restarts itself or some type of improper closing occurs. Why is this? Is there an addon to make firefox remember tabs?

The feature to restore your previous session is fragile. For example, if the Flash player updates as it did this week, a page will launch in Firefox. If you close Firefox without using Restore Previous Session, you just replaced your last session with the Adobe page. Oh NO!!!

There is an add-on to save more sessions and have better control over them. I haven't tried it myself.

Session Manager: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/session-manager/

By the way, there are many session related settings in Firefox. If you set Firefox to start up by restoring your previous session, that is separate from the settings for what to do after a crash. If you decide you don't want to use an add-on, we should review your settings in more detail so you can at least get some basic crash recovery set up.
