The bookmarks backup folder has my bookmarks but they do not show on bookmarks menu.
I just replaced a crashed hard drive. The profile folder has a backup of my bookmarks but when I try to restore them, they do not reappear in my bookmarks folder or bookmarks toolbar.
Chosen solution
If you would like, I can try to find the problem with the .urf files.
Please email them to wob1997@msn.com.

What type of file is the backup of your bookmarks?
Most of the times they are HTML files.
Are you trying to restore one of the JSON backups (bookmarks-####-##-##.json) located in the bookmarkbackups folder?
- Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Restore > Choose File
If you created a JSON or HTML backup manually then make sure that the file has the correct file extension (.json or .html).
If restoring doesn't work then you can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.
The folder in the default profile has .urf files.
Cor-el: Your answer is way above my knowledge. The folder is readable and contains my bookmarks but they will not restore and show up in the bookmarks dropdown.
If you see .URL files then you are likely in the Favorites folder used by the MS Internet Explorer and not in the Firefox profile folder. Firefox stores the bookmarks in the places.sqlite database file. You would have to import the IE favorites in Firefox or export them in IE to an HTML file and import this file in Firefox.

I cannot attach them to an email. When I try, it just opens the folder to all the favorites. I also tried copy/paste and dragging also didnt work. The folder is in the profile that I access from the troubleshooting screen of firefox.
Thanks everyone! I just found a html backup (about 6 months old) of the file and this is MUCH better than nothing! Harry
