Recover a synced firefox account
Hello Firefox support
Merry Christmas
I have a mozilla firefox sync account however it is asking me for a recovery key and I tried many different approaches however it seems that I didn't get it in the first place as it's a new security measure you guys added. I have the email address and the password that the account was created with? Could you possibly help me with recovering the account and especially recovery key
Thanks Lukas

No, the Recovery Key isn't new. It was introduced in it's current form 3 or 4 months before Firefox 4.0 was released in March of 2011.
If you don't have access to another device that is connected to that Sync account to allow "pairing" the devices, and you don't have the Recovery Key, your data can't be retrieved. Without the pairing code and two devices, or the Recovery Key, there's no way to decrypt your data. That "key" is used to encrypt your data as it is being sent to the Sync servers; no one but you ever see that key to ensure privacy.
Did you ever used Sync on your computer?
You can find the sync account password and the sync (recovery) key in the password manager on computers where a sync account with a specific e-mail address has been set up.
- Firefox > Preferences > Security: Passwords: "Saved Passwords" > "Show Passwords"
Look for:
- chrome://weave (Mozilla Services Password)
- chrome://weave (Mozilla Services Encryption Passphrase)
