My browser was recently hijacked by Trovi search engine and it changed the home page and new tab page. I was able to change back the homepage, but the new tab page has been trickier. I tried going to about:config and changing "browser.newtab.url" to "about.newtab" (because I want the page with the frequent sites back), but it just reset to the Trovi site after I clicked OK. I tried editing it again, this time with a URL, but it reset again. This continued even after restarting Firefox. Finally, I tried the add-on "SearchReset." It wiped my regular homepage, but the new tab site is still Trovi... Whatever I do, it won't change. It keeps resetting back to Trovi.

Thank you. I found out that the problem was caused by some program called Search Protect.
