I am using Windows 8.

Firefox automatically changes both the inactive tab text color as well as the "New Tab" button to white when the Windows theme color is set to black. Here is an example:

http://s29.postimg.org/xadwnenvb/Default_white_text.jpg

Unfortunately this feature doesn't get enabled in instances when it should. For example:

http://s29.postimg.org/ttgfy6e6v/Not_white.jpg

It is possible to temporarily force it, by closing Firefox & changing the Windows theme color to black(& saving), then opening Firefox & change the theme colour (with Firefox open). For example:

http://s29.postimg.org/ogrlk1qaf/Forced_white_text.jpg

Though it will reset next time firefox is restarted.

Is there a way to force Firefox to maintain the white text & button no matter the theme color chosen in Windows?

Perhaps there is some "about:config" setting or "userchrome" code that could do this?

You can try the Classic Theme Restorer extension.

  • You can check out the settings of the CTR extension via its Options/Preferences button on the "Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" page.
  • You can find extra toolbar buttons and more toolbar settings in Customize (3-bar Firefox menu button > Customize)

You can also try a solid lightweight theme (Persona).

I feel like "Classic Theme Restorer" is overkill for what I want, considering the option I want is already built in, just not under user control.

A lightweight theme is just a background & they look ugly as sin.

I am just looking for a specific way to force this option to stay on, is all.
