Hello,

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache. Note: This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to. To clear cache and cookies do the following:

  1. Click the menu button New Fx Menu, choose History, and then "Clear Recent History...".
  2. Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
  3. Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
  4. From the details list, check Cache and Cookies and uncheck everything else.
  5. Now click the "Clear Now" button.

Further information can be found in the Delete browsing, search and download history on Firefox article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

Clear the cache and remove cookies only from websites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

If clearing cookies didn't help then it is possible that the cookies.sqlite file that stores the cookies got corrupted.

  • Rename (or delete) cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete other present cookies files like cookies.sqlite-journal in the Firefox profile folder in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

nothing fixes problem but what is exasperating is that half the replies are impossible to follow, eg. there is no "options" when I open tools.

If you are on Linux or Mac then you can find Options/Preferences elsewhere in the user interface.

  • Linux: Edit > Preferences
  • Mac: Firefox > Preferences

If you are having problems signing in to Gmail go to tools; add ons; extensions. There's a plug in called "discontinue search" or something similar. Remove it. It's screwing up a lot of stuff.
