I like to quickly download images from image boards and I have run across this issue over the past few years. If I right click on the image and select "view image," then I switch tabs quickly it open on the current tab instead of the tab that I clicked view image on. This happens if I switch tabs before the page starts to load just the image. I have a macro setup on my keyboard to switch tabs quickly which is why I am able to change tabs so fast. I also noticed this issue does not occur in chrome.

It is possible to change this feature and force it into a new tab. Right click on "View Image" and click on "Open link in New tab"

The problem I have is that I do not want it to open in a new tab. It makes grabbing images quicker is everything loads properly. It might help to note that I am using nightly 64bit beta, though it has happened on every version of Firefox that I have used.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

It isn't the profile. This has been happening on multiple machines for the past few years across multiple profiles and versions of firefox. I feel it is an issue with the way Firefox is handling the task. Currently it occures in the two machines I use and both have a separate profile.
