Want to restore lost bookmarks following a Firefox refresh

Did Firefox create a new folder on your desktop named Old Firefox Data, which contains at least one semi-randomly named folder containing freshly updated files? If so, that would contain the bookmark backup files you could use to restore your bookmarks.

Step 1 is to check for that folder and drill down into the bookmarkbackups folder and find the latest backups. I suggest copying the two most recent to the desktop, as that will be a bit easier in the following steps.

Step 2 is to consider whether you bookmarked anything between the time you lost your old bookmarks and now that is essential to save. Because the Restore feature is a complete replacement for your current set of bookmarks.

In that case, you could export the current bookmarks to an HTML file for future importation. See: Export Firefox bookmarks to an HTML file to back up or transfer bookmarks.

Step 3 is to restore. See the following article. You'll click "Choose File" and then point Firefox to your desktop and try the most recent backup file.

Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer

Success?

Step 4 - OPTIONAL - if you created an export file in Step 2, you can import it now: Import Bookmarks from an HTML file. An Imported Bookmarks folder will appear either on your Bookmarks Menu or under Other Bookmarks.

Does that work?
