I've been using Firefox for longer than I can remember and have never had any problems with it.

However, this last week Firefox (53.0.2) refused to start up, except in safe mode. It has taken me days of uninstalling, doing clean re-installs, checking my system, etc, etc. before finally tracking down the problem.

Firefox 53.0.2 will not start if Trusteer Rapport software is running - if I stop the software Firefox starts, if I enable the software Firefox doesn't start.

Trusteer Rapport is recommended by my bank - so, sadly, I have to switch from Firefox at least until this incompatibility is resolved.

Hi, unfortunately Trusteer is seemingly often slow to accommodate the latest version of Firefox, which is a pity, because using an old version can in itself compromise your security.

Details of new Firefox versions are available well in advance - https://wiki.mozilla.org/RapidRelease/Calendar

Unless your bank insists, you don't of course have to use it, but that's a matter of personal choice.

Thanks for your reply.

My bank doesn't directly insist - merely advises. BUT if there happened to be a problem they could point to me not following their advice as a contributing factor. That isn't a risk I can take.

I have reported the incompatibility to Trusteer Rapport.

In the meantime I have sadly little option but to use a different browser.
